This Week in F-Droid

TWIF curated on Friday, 24 Jul 2026, Week 30

Community News

Fennec F-Droid was updated to 153.0.0 adding tab groups, another annoying instance of the privacy dashboard (So, Mozilla, your telemetry showed everybody disabling that from the Start page so you’ve added it to the Tab page because…? Pfft), downloads improvements and bug fixes as usual. One noteworthy announced feature was “Bookmark import: Import your bookmarks from a CSV file.” which I’ve run to use right away… to no avail, because I have no idea how to actually use, or where. (Ping us if you discover it, please!)

Mattermost Beta was updated to 2.42.2 with the usual bug fixes and rather minimal new features (those come from the server usually). Oh, about the server, 2.41.3 was the last version that was compatible with older server versions down to 9.0 or maybe even lower. If you still run that make sure to update to latest ESR v10.11.xx, it will work even on older Linux distros, just make sure you have Postgresql 13+.

Organic Maps・Offline Map & GPS was updated to 2026.07.15-11-FDroid with a bunch of improvements, public transport, alternate routes, bookmarks colors, more grids, newer map and Wikipedia files and more. For years, the point of disagreement between the F-Droid team and the OM developers was the flagging of their file server as an anti-feature, “TetheredNet”, and this is fixed now. In the app you can typepaste ?map-download-server:https://your-server.com/ in the search window to override the Organic Maps map download servers. TypePaste ?no-map-download-server to remove the override. We welcome this change but we’d like the addition of a proper Setting instead of this contrived trick, just like their fork CoMaps - Hike, Bike, Drive Offline with Privacy, updated to 2026.07.16-10-FDroid this week, has.

Talking about maps and navigation, OSMAnd~ had a series of posts we’ve missed about some of their features you might not have yet explored. Get bold and read on astronomy, 3D buildings, nautical maps and measuring tools.

Speaking of Fennec, WebLibre: The Privacy-Focused Browser was updated to 0.20.0 with a huge changelog. Will not even try to summarize that, just read it while it installs (or updates)!

@shuvashish76 disconnect their desktop:

Offline Translator was updated to 0.8.2. You might miss the simplicity and the power of the app on your desktop, but stay chill, the developer got you covered as they just released the Qt port of offline translator for Linux.
